Long Oval Signet Ring

Origin
The signet ring began not as ornament but as proof of identity. In medieval Europe, nobles and merchants engraved a family crest or set of initials into the ring's face, pressed it into hot wax and sealed a letter. That impression served as signature and as contract. The face had to be flat, full and substantial enough to leave a clean mark—the common origin of every signet form that followed.

Proportion
Among those forms, the elongated oval has survived longest with the least alteration. It follows the line of the finger: more restrained than a circle, softer than a square, and the most balanced outline in the signet family. Substantial enough for a man, fine enough for a woman; correct in formal settings, unobtrusive in daily wear. It suits both the pinky and the ring finger.

Composition
The elongated face allows generous horizontal room—suited to content that reads across: paired letters, longer names, motifs that extend laterally. Intricate lettering has space for its strokes to open out without crowding.

Custom engraving
The face can be configured to your requirements: lettering, names in English or Chinese, crest-style motifs, dates and symbols. Ang Jewellery adjusts typeface and layout to the proportions of the face, with production beginning after proof confirmation.

Two finishes are available. Oxidized engraving darkens the lines for sharp, high-contrast definition, as shown. Polished engraving leaves the metal bare, revealing the design as the light shifts—a more restrained effect.
