Soft-Edge Rectangular Signet Ring

Origin
The signet ring began not as ornament but as proof of identity. In medieval Europe, nobles and merchants engraved a family crest or set of initials into the ring's face, pressed it into hot wax and sealed a letter. That impression served as signature and as contract. The face had to be flat, full and substantial enough to leave a clean mark—the common origin of every signet form that followed.

Proportion
Here the traditional rectangular face is turned across the finger and softened at the corners and edges, releasing the weight and severity of the classical form. The band is drawn deliberately fine, setting up a clear contrast in thickness that lets the face read as a distinct plane resting above the knuckle. It is the lightest of the signet forms—retaining the legibility of the face without its usual heft, and well suited to those who prefer minimal lines or are wearing a signet for the first time. It suits the pinky, ring and middle fingers.

Composition
The horizontal rectangle offers the most generous width of any face in the collection, making it the best suited to a full name. A single line of lateral text accommodates longer names or short phrases at a legible size without compressing the type. Vertical space is limited, so multi-line layouts are not recommended.

Custom engraving
The face can be configured to your requirements: a full name, initials, English or Chinese text, dates and symbols. Ang Jewellery adjusts typeface and layout to the proportions of the face, with production beginning after proof confirmation. The face may also be left plain, preserving the full flat mirror surface.

Two finishes are available. Oxidized engraving darkens the lines for sharp, high-contrast definition. Polished engraving leaves the metal bare, revealing the lettering as the light shifts—the more restrained effect, as shown.
